The Triodes is another project Michael co-leads with Paul Neufeld, inspired by
instrumental funk, reggae, electric jazz, and psychedelic rock. The group
features Michael on electric guitars and effects, Paul Neufeld on synthesizers
and organ, producer Roberto Occhipinti on electric bass, Doan Pham on drums,
Luis Orbegoso on percussion, rapper Phatt Al on the song Blue Pepper, and
special guest Jeff Coffin (from both Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and the Dave
Mattews Band) on saxophones and flute. It can be heard at

Michael Occhipinti made his debut as Artistic Director of the Markham Jazz
Festival this year. Michael was pleased to have a lineup that featured the best
of the Toronto area jazz scene and international acts that included the
Canadian debut of Don Byron's New Gospel Quintet, John Pizzarelli, and Cameron
Brown's Hear and Now featuring Sheila Jordan. Don Byron was the festival's
first Artist in Residence, and he performed as a guest with Michael and the
Triodes.

Michael continues in his role as Artistic Director for Lake Field Music
(formerly part of CAMMAC), running a fantastic music camp for amateur musicians
interested in jazz and world (week 1) music and classical music (week 2). Visit

Michael Occhipinti received a Chalmers Arts Award to live in Sicily from
March-June 2010. Based in the city of Pozzallo, Michael met and performed with
a number of Sicilian folk and jazz musicians and traveled throughout the island
that still remains one of Italy's best kept secrets. Photos and thoughts are on
