>> There are two new Michael Occhipinti recordings released in 2010! NOJO, the Neufeld-Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra has released NOJO Explores The Dark Side Of The Moon, which has the band reinventing Pink Floyd's classic album with original arrangements by Paul Neufeld and Michael Occhipinti. Hear the entire recording at www.nojomusic.com or (even better) go straight to iTunes to purchase it.

>> The Triodes is another project Michael co-leads with Paul Neufeld, inspired by instrumental funk, reggae, electric jazz, and psychedelic rock. The group features Michael on electric guitars and effects, Paul Neufeld on synthesizers and organ, producer Roberto Occhipinti on electric bass, Doan Pham on drums, Luis Orbegoso on percussion, rapper Phatt Al on the song Blue Pepper, and special guest Jeff Coffin (from both Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and the Dave Mattews Band) on saxophones and flute. It can be heard at https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/Triodes and there's a Triodes You Tube Channel

>> Michael Occhipinti made his debut as Artistic Director of the Markham Jazz Festival this year. Michael was pleased to have a lineup that featured the best of the Toronto area jazz scene and international acts that included the Canadian debut of Don Byron's New Gospel Quintet, John Pizzarelli, and Cameron Brown's Hear and Now featuring Sheila Jordan. Don Byron was the festival's first Artist in Residence, and he performed as a guest with Michael and the Triodes.

>> Michael continues in his role as Artistic Director for Lake Field Music (formerly part of CAMMAC), running a fantastic music camp for amateur musicians interested in jazz and world (week 1) music and classical music (week 2). Visit www.lakefieldmusic.ca.

>> Michael Occhipinti received a Chalmers Arts Award to live in Sicily from March-June 2010. Based in the city of Pozzallo, Michael met and performed with a number of Sicilian folk and jazz musicians and traveled throughout the island that still remains one of Italy's best kept secrets. Photos and thoughts are on Michael's new blog.
